A protective relay is a device used to monitor and protect electrical equipment and systems. Their working principle is based on monitoring changes in electrical parameters (such as current, voltage, frequency, etc.) and reacting accordingly according to preset logic.

The 469-P1-HI-A20-E is also unique among most models in that it comes with an optional conformal coating; This thin polymer layer helps protect the device from dust, heat and more. As a result, conformal coatings extend motor life, especially in hazardous working environments.

The 469-P1-HI-A20-E’s enhanced panel can be divided into approximately four parts: this includes an RS232 port for direct connection to a laptop running the EnerVista 469, a redesigned keyboard for set point input and editing, an expanded 40-character LCD display, and leds for various states within the system.

The “P1” in the model number of 469-P1-HI-A20-E indicates that the relay is compatible with the 1 A phase CT secondary. In comparison to the 5 A phase current transformer secondary of model “P5”, the user should ensure that the phase current rating is consistent with the connection and secondary ratings of all connected current transformers. Over time, mismatched current transformers can cause damage to the system and will undoubtedly lead to weakened protection, even if this damage does not immediately become apparent.

The relay is also capable of self-assessment, assessing motor health and providing configurable alarms to alert the user if there is a problem with the rotor. This early detection system not only reduces downtime, but also reduces troubleshooting time. Indicators related to motor health can also be viewed in GE Multiline’s EnerVista 469 program, which is more efficient than manually navigating the relay menu using a keyboard.
